Just Added Stefan Feld’s LUNA DELUXIFIED Game to My Collection..

As someone who is now building a pretty substantial game collection (I’m at over 200 titles now), I have been trying to work more on acquiring older board games that are out of print. One of the designers that I’ve been trying to add more of is Stefan Feld.

Obviously, anyone that enjoys strategy eurogames will know Feld. He is one of the most popular designers of modern board games.  I currently hold Castles of Burgundy, Notre Dame, and In the Year of the Dragon in my collection.  Many of his most sought after games are currently out of print. Some of those that I really, really want to add are Macao, Luna, and Strasbourg. Macao is a particularly tough game to track down. It is going to be reprinted (or rather “reimplemented”) as the game Amsterdam in a new Kickstarter version that is coming out soon.  But the cost to back that seemed a bit high for me, so I passed on it.

That said, I will be traveling to Madrid, Spain in a week. I searched on boardgamegeek and found on the Geekmarket there a seller of Luna who was offering a good price. I decided to buy it, especially because it is the “deluxified” version that offers decals on all of the wooden pieces and metal coins in the shape of phases of the moon. This game is no longer in print, since the company that printed both the basic and “deluxified” version , Tasty Minstrel Games , has gone out of business. Any game that Stefan Feld has designed is likely to be reprinted, but in the meantime, if the game can be had for a good price, it is a solid move to snatch it up.

I noted that other sellers were pricing this version at about $150, but I was able to get it f0r €45 and €5 shipping. I paid via Paypal for another few dollars, which brought my total cost to $68 for the game.  I will be able to have it shipped to a post box in Madrid to pick up after our flight on Delta!  We can play the game as a 2 player, but this game will play better at 3 or 4, so I searched on meetup.com for a Madrid gaming group.

My wife and I always enjoy meeting other euro board game fans in our travels. Maybe sometime soon I will post about our trip to Munich Germany, where we were able to play a game with some other gamers.
